Riyadh, July 29, 2023, SPA -- President of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and Chair of the Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons Dr. Hala bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri highlighted the Kingdom's efforts to combat human trafficking in all its forms and manifestations and across borders.
In a press statement on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which is observed on July 30, Al-Tuwaijri said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made remarkable progress in combating this crime, and has taken the measures needed to deter traffickers and perpetrators of these crimes, and to watch over and protect victims, which has resulted in an improved Kingdom standing on this matter at international level.
She underlined the great interest the Kingdom's government has paid in combating trafficking in persons, including launching national initiatives and mechanisms aimed at tackling this crime, protecting and supporting victims and prosecuting traffickers.
The HRC president said that this year’s theme, "Reach every victim of trafficking, leave no one behind", is one of the strategic objectives of the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking 2021-2023, which was approved by the Human Rights Commission’s Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons.
She added that the plan is based on the basic pillars that prevent crime, including increasing societal awareness of the concept of human trafficking, building national capacities to combat it, protecting and assisting victims through an integrated national system that is consistent with the best international standards and practices, and strengthening the prosecution of criminals.
